The comprehensive renovation plan for this historic School building, and strong community anchor in East Lexington Village, involves the exploration of integrating sustainable features such as a green roof, water reclamation, photovoltaic cells, and geothermal heat. In keeping with the institution's core teachings by Rudolf Steiner, sustainability is integral throughout all the grades, and any sustainable building features would further complement the campus as a hands-on learning laboratory for students and all who visit.

Our extensive planning work entailed:

  • review of of the entire building’s deferred maintenance needs and assessment of the School's space-use requirements and institution's long-range plan

  • assembly of specialized building consultants to form the due diligence team

  • developing cost estimates and fundraising/planning/and construction timeline

  • conducting outreach presentations on sustainability and campus renewal to faculty, parents, and students to begin the collaborative and shared learning behind the collaborative community visioning that will occur in the Fall of 2007.

Waldorf School is a pre-K through grade-8 independent school with 230 students.
