Waste Water Treatment Facility
Scranton, Pennsylvania
Developed the public information program and communications tools for teh Scranton Sewer Authority used by elected state and local officials to educate citizens on the
implementation of one of the regions first compost treatment facilities.
Working closely with engineering firms CECO Associates of Scranton and Gannett Fleming Harrisburg office, John Rossi developed the communications strategy and tools to convey the science behind the process as well as the benefits of treating sewage sludge over conventional processes where waste is either incinerated or sent to landfills. The new composting facility recycles solid waste into organic soil conditioner used by, and sold to, golf courses, municipal landscapes, and can be especially useful for land reclamation projects of formerly industrial sites.

A series of forums were held along with on-site tours of the composting facility. Invitees included the media and public.
Audiences were met with a multi-media/multi-projector audio visual presentation (pre-PowerPoint), a walking tour of the facility narrated by its engineers, and printed materials describing the process and benefits to the environment.
